For those of you who are not familiar with the information, Taxmageddon is the ominous term given to the coming tax year, expected to reflect critical changes in the revenue of the Internal Revenue Service. The "Bush Tax Cuts" are set to expire at the end of this year. Some of the key areas of a tax return that will be affected are the Child Tax Credit, the Alternative Minimum Tax Credit, the Payroll Tax Credit, and the Inheritance Tax.
There have been a few times that I have dared to speak my mind about the logic of the IRS, and its approach to the United States' government's funding. It seems to me that the system is engineered to deliberately break the government and offer up the country on a silver platter to its' debtors. Lo and behold, just look at where we are going !!! Somebody somewhere is going to make a meal out of Americans before this budget gets balanced again.
Nobody "likes" taxes. Everybody "hates" tax season. Nobody "wants" to pay taxes. Truthfully, I don't mind taxes. I realize that there are things we have to have as a society, and if paying taxes covers all of that, without me getting all sorts of other bills on the side, then by all means, TAX me. Unfortunately, most people are convinced that if they just refuse to cooperate and refuse to pay taxes that they are still entitled to all the benefits funded by the tax system. That's not the way it works.......
In my opinion, there are many more tax credits and tax cuts that should not be in existence. Medical expenses are currently tax-deductible. Why should my government be on the hook for private, free market medical care? The desk in your office, and, in fact, your office, are tax-deductible. Why should my government pay for your desk and your office when it can't afford to pay attention? That business trip to Hong Kong you had last week? I just really don't believe that my government, in any way, shape, form, or fashion should be held accountable for that. It's your business. It's your free market. You pay for it, and don't bill my government for it at the end of the year.
Economics 101...... Yes.... I do see that this is the warped, self-serving logic that has given birth to this monster. However, my rebuttal is simply Math 101. The responsibility of the United States government and the IRS is the best interests of this country, not the best interests of a very poorly designed free market. While Taxmageddon does not rectify all of the dysfunction clearly contributing to the negligence of our government, it is, at least, a start.
