Okay, I confess. I'm hungry, and, therefore, thinking about food. All sorts of awesome flavors are teasing my mind right now, like bacon double cheeseburgers, chocolate covered-strawberries, chicken tenders, barbequed, shredded pork sandwiches...... MMmmmmmmm......... Chocolate milkshake, tomato soup with a grilled cheese, loaded baked potato.....

So, I'm wondering. What are you having for dinner?

Having healthy '10 minute' meal tonight. Red clam sauce (homemade) over spaghetti squash with garlic bread and salads. Fixing it with my spouse help.

Now, why can't you have milkshakes, strawberries, bbq, or chicken tenders?

I would eat all the garlic bread and salad. Nice of him to help you. :)

I can't have a milkshake because I'm too POOR still. Ugh..... Waiting waiting waiting on funds to process. They're coming, though, and I'm sure dreaming of things like fried shrimp, loaded baked potatoes, cheesecake brownies, and lots of other designer flavors I've been 'a missing.

I usually nuke a dinner, have a sandwich or cereal. Thrilling, huh? My son is rarely home anymore, when he is we'll make pasta of some kind. Pushing the culinary boundaries.

I really enjoy sandwiches or cereals, actually. For a good twist, I make sandwiches out of Hawaiian bread sometimes, with grapes or other fresh fruit on the side. Good stuff!!!

Michaelina's frozen foods makes a single serving piece of pepperoni pizza designed for the microwave that is very, very good. The crust is amazing soft, flaky, pan crust, even when nuked.

We are in better spirits, to be sure, but we've not been able to move forward just yet. We have to wait for disbursements to process through to billing and tuitions, and then see what is left over.

A little note for the *believe it or not* crew..... I received a food stamp card in the mail just yesterday, with funding on it. After all this time, after all these denials, and after completely giving up on them and refused to consider even talking to them again, they decide to do something right for me. Hmph......

(Did you hear? I had repeated denials because I did not prove my INS status and because the last state I lived in refused to provide adequate proof of case closure.)

Hooray for fresh grapes, and good cheddar, and italian turkey-cheese pita sammichs!!!!!

Finally you can get real food River. I'm so happy something good has finally happened for you. I seem to recall the denials and other red tape you've had to go through. Unbelievable that a person who has nothing has to prove it. How do you prove you don't have anything?

What a mess this has been for you River. But finally a light at the end of tunnel. And hopefully no more neckbones for dinner either. Yuck! Take care of yourself - a lot of us are thinking about ya.

An unholy ordeal..... We got our first disbursement last night, and are relaxing with fried shrimp atm. Not nearly as large of a payout as we were told to expect, but we will be OKAY.

I made homemade chicken pot pies-including homemade pie shells. It took me 2 hours but they were good :) I made one for myself and one for my family (they don't like all the veggies I do). Then I had Woodchuck Hard Cider to drink and we are having a Strawberry Cake with Whipped Icing for dessert :) Sorry to make you salivate...I wish I could send you some through Cyber Space...maybe someday :)

I am going gluten free on Sunday so I am getting all of the wheat, barley and rye I can now! LOL!

Somehow, I can't make a pie shell to save my soul. My fried pie crusts are pretty great, but baked crusts always fall flat for me.

Chicken pot pies are pretty good. The one I had a few weeks ago wasn't so grand, though. Too many mushrooms to pick 'em all out. :)

It is still pretty early but I am already thinking about what I will make for dinner tonight. I have given up on take out and microwaved food, mostly because I was spending a lot of money for the convenience. I can make a filet mignon dinner for less then I spend on ordering a pizza. In fact that is what I have to make tonight. Poor me, lol. I think to go along with the steak I will make baked sweet potatoes with cinnamon and brown sugar butter and steamed asparagus. Not too shabby…now all I have to do is make it to the end of the day.

I don't much enjoy microwaved foods anymore, myself. Not so much because of the money, but the quality just isn't there for me.

I learned the butter trick on the Food Network. You can pretty much infuse any flavors you like, sweet or savory. Cream the butter and mix in the flavor, roll it into a tube shape in plastic wrap, into the fridge, cut and serve. Looks fancy :)

Don't get me wrong, frozen entrees are fine for a quick fix but they are more expensive and no where near as tasty. And if it isn't delicious I don't really want it. lol

No green stuff, River... or just not the asparagas?

Green stuff, yes, just not asparagus. I enjoy broccoli, lettuce, spinach, pickles/cucumbers, string beans, butter beans.... Oh...and m&m's. :)

Different butters can spice up a kitchen, to be sure. I'm a fan of different cream cheeses, also.

Now that I read about it, I am kind of hungry. It's almost 5 p.m. and I haven't had anything to eat yet today. He who controls the remote is cooking beans and ham hocks (I hope that is spelled right) with cornbread. I'd rather eat toe jam spread on moldy crackers! Fortunately, I will probably find something in the big white box a little tastier (I hope). LOL

Glad you got those food stamps, River -- go eat!

Gosh River ... sorry you're having to deal with all that you are. I hope your life gets easier soon.

I'm cooking tonight. Homemade chicken soup. I'll admit it, I'm a chicken-broth snob ... have to make it myself ... herbs, onions, celery, garlic, boiling down the bones, then strain and de-fat it. When I can get them, it's good to throw in a chicken foot or two, but not necessary. Adds a wonderful "gelatin" consistency to the broth. The main reason, however, is that it's like penicillin ... except that it boosts the immune system, and I can control the sodium ... most purchased broths have way too much salt in them. I do a huge pot ... freeze a good bit of it for other times. We're also having a crusty bread with it.

Okay, I really enjoy a good homemade chicken soup, but I cannot knowing eat anything that has been in direct contact with a chicken foot.

My mom has a recipe for Chicken Corn Chowder that's pretty awesome. Thick, rich, hearty.... Makes me want a pot.

Acorn squash with brown sugar.... I've not ever had that. I did grow some acorn squash a few years ago, and tried a few different times to cook them, but never did find a suitable way.

I won't claim to be proud, but I am not even remotely embarassed about the food stamps at this point. We've had too many hungry days this year.

Acorn squash with brown sugar.... I've not ever had that.

Easy schmeezy. And not too dear.

Split in half, scoop out seeds, place in a cake pan or pie pan or cookie sheet. Sprinkle brown sugar, place in 350 oven for an hour. Enjoy. Drizzel on some honey if you like.
